Quirky, unique and environmentally sustainable
From our Norfolk studio we love to reclaim, revamp and relove unwanted furniture using painting, distressing and decoupage techniques to create quirky, unique and environmentally sustainable pieces.
We breathe new life into charity shop and Freecycle finds using wood offcuts, discarded giftwrap and random junk, working exclusively with Annie Sloan chalk paint, a non-toxic water-based medium that is lead-free, EG-free, odour-free and has very low volatile organic compounds. Our decoupage lamp and light shades reuse paper napkins and offcuts with vintage graphics.
“I love the scuffed time-worn nature of shabby chic furniture,” says Abbey, Ilka’s creative force. “Each piece has a distinctive one-off character that defies the mass produced flat-packed offerings found on the high street.
“Reusing landfill fodder rather than buying new is a massively rewarding ethical alternative to the rampant consumerism of our disposable, quick-fix culture, which makes me proud to be part of the recycling, waste-reducing revolution. It feels a little bit like beating the system!”
